Although I enjoy working in the dramatic mountains of Snowdonia I’ve recently been exploring some gentler landscapes in North East Wales. I asked myself, why haven’t I visited the coastline of Prestatyn and Rhyl before? The coastal promenade stretches for miles and there is a view of the Great Orme on the horizon. “Autumn Clouds, Prestatyn” shows Ffrith Beach under dark clouds with Rhyl in the distance. I plan to return here again, especially to capture rough waves and weather over the winter months.
I visited Mold, or “Yr Wyddgrug” in Welsh, and found a panoramic view including Moel Famau with St Mary’s Church just poking out above the trees. The greens of late summer had softened and warmed. I felt I had to include our equine friend as a focal point.
Continuing the North East Wales theme, I’m now busy working on some views of Llangollen. Here's a painting in progress on the easel.
