Stories from the British Countryside

Rural life, painted from observation by Alison Bradley

The British countryside doesn't sit still. Seasons turn, weather moves in without warning, and the light on a hillside in the afternoon is completely different from a few hours earlier or later. That's what keeps bringing me back.

I've been painting rural life for over twenty years - in North Wales, the Lake District, and now Devon - and the subjects that draw me most are the ones that connect people to the land. Sheep on a snowy hillside. A shepherd and his dog heading home. Highland cattle in summer light. The quiet drama of a lambing barn. These aren't idealised scenes - they're observed ones, drawn from time spent with farmers, their animals, and the landscapes they work in.

The Rural Life collection brings together oils, charcoal drawings and pastels made across two decades of painting. Each print is reproduced to museum quality on heavyweight fine art paper, and hand-signed by me before it leaves the studio.

Every master print file is developed here in our own studio, with me approving each rural life print against the original artwork. That's how we make sure the print faithfully captures the tone, depth and light of the work - not just a photograph of it. Our most popular sizes for above a sofa or bed are the larger panoramics. If you're unsure, drop us a message and we'll help.

Alison Bradley

Meet Alison

I'm Alison Bradley, an artist now based in Devon, after starting my professional practice in 2005 with my own galleries in North Wales and Chester.

I've been painting the British landscape for over twenty years - oils mainly, sometimes charcoal - working from life before developing pieces in the studio with layers of colour and light. My inspiration comes from the coastline, countryside and the people and animals who belong to them.

I've shown work at the Royal Cambrian Academy, and have been featured on the BBC and Channel 4. My work is in private collections worldwide, and in the National Collection of the National Library of Wales.

My hope is always the same - that a painting connects with something personal to you. A memory of a walk, a love of the coast, or simply somewhere to rest your eyes at the end of the day.
