I saw them standing in the snow on a moonlit night - a whole flock in a line, huddled together against the weather. The sheep around me in the Clwydian Hills gave me endless inspiration over twenty years, but this was a special moment that stayed with me.
I painted each sheep with its own expression and character - no two are quite the same, and I wanted to do each one justice. The moonlight glistened on the snow as flakes fell from the dark sky, and I painted the whole thing in warm neutral browns despite the cold subject. The contrast was something I was aiming for - a winter night that somehow feels cosy rather than harsh. A print that gives you a hug.

Highland cows have a way of making you smile, and this one's no exception. Painted in oils, she's all deep russet and amber against a cool, frosty background - completely unbothered by the cold, completely in charge of the situation.
This is a print with presence, a print that makes a room. If you love rural life, the British countryside, or just an animal with a fabulous barnet, she might be just right for your wall.

This is one of a series I made about the life of the shepherd - spending time with a farmer and watching him work, understanding and absorbing the rhythm of his days. Here he's carrying hay from the barn to feed the sheep waiting outside, heading out into a cold white morning without a second thought.
Drawn in willow charcoal on paper, which gave me the range of tone I needed for the deep warm shade of the barn interior against the bright cold light flooding through the doorway and the sheep milling around his feet. A characterful print that pairs perfectly with Aros! and brings the essence of British rural life into your living space.

I lived for many years in the Clwydian Hills in North Wales, where snow in winter and early spring was just part of life. I was passing a field one day and saw a shepherd bringing hay to his flock across a snow-covered hillside, the sheep following faithfully behind. I couldn’t resist.
The original was a charcoal drawing, and this medium suits the subject perfectly - soft winter light reflecting off the snow, the bare trees, the quiet of a cold morning. It took a while; there were a lot of sheep, and I felt I had to include every one of them, right down to the smallest.
It's a scene that hasn't changed in centuries. A shepherd, his flock, and a hard winter. If you love rural life, the British countryside, or just honest, timeless subjects, this one has a lot to say.

This is based on a farmer who lived near us in North Wales - not a portrait, but someone who inspired it. The flock has been tended, and now he's heading back across the snow for a warm fire and a rest. His faithful Border Collie is right beside him, as always.
I wanted to capture the very special bond between shepherd and dog - out together in all weathers, completely dependent on each other. I painted it in oils with a limited palette, which helped to pull the whole thing together and keep the focus on the two figures in the snow. If this reminds you of someone you know, that's exactly what I hoped for.

I was walking in the Conwy Valley when this one appeared over a dry stone wall and just stared at me. A Welsh Black cow, completely unbothered, enormously curious. I've painted this breed many times - having lived in North Wales for years, they feel like old friends - but those eyes and ears demanded a painting of their own.
The soft greens of the Welsh hills and the grey stone wall let the cow’s beautiful dark coat do all the talking.
I hope it brings a bit of the countryside with it, and that same feeling of being caught off guard by an unexpected face.
If you love Welsh rural life, the British countryside, or inquisitive cattle, this is a print with character.
