Meet Alison
I'm Alison Bradley, an artist now based in Devon, after starting my professional practice in 2005 with my own galleries in North Wales and Chester.
What I'm really painting isn't just the coastline, or the countryside, or the animals in the field - despite them featuring on the canvas. It's the light falling on them. A view can sit there quite happily doing nothing much, and then the light changes and suddenly it's the only thing you can look at. That's the moment I'm chasing.
I've been painting the British landscape for over twenty years - oils mainly, sometimes charcoal, which taught me to think in pure tone. I like to work from life, then develop from my sketches in the studio, building up the layers of paint until it feels true to what I experienced.
My work has been featured on the BBC and Channel 4. It’s in private collections worldwide, and in the National Collection of the National Library of Wales.
My hope is always the same - that a painting connects with something personal to you. A memory of a walk, a love of the coast, a particular quality of light that grabbed you, or simply somewhere to rest your eyes at the end of the day.
