One morning we arrived in Bowness Bay at about 6am to find Windermere almost glass-like in its stillness, and only one or two other people down by the lakeside. The scene had an eerie charm, and Alison was drawn to this line of partly submerged hire boats - with the line of the two piers drawing the viewer’s eye out into the lake. It was a truly special moment and made the early start from home worthwhile.
